softlyer big confusion

hello ,


I wanted to have my own server from softlayer.


but I ran into lots of options regarding software which I cannot handle


for example , red-hat , centOS and so many options

by the way , I am running vbulletin forum (only 100 megabytes database )

I do not have any previous experience for dealing with servers nor vps but I picked up softlyer for based on what I see and hear around.


please let me know what is the best choice for me and whether I need to get a server know or just start with vps for now .


It will be helpful if you could point out some good books or useful resources
