View Full Version : I feel like a total idiot . . .

I have a few questions about setting up my site. I thought I knew a little something about this, but it was a few years ago since I last messed with this.

1. I have not uploaded any files to my site. When I type www.mydomain.com, I get that Index of/ list. When I do send my files to the site, does it automatically keep this from appearing? Am I supposed to arrange my files a certain way before I upload them?

2. At the moment, I just want to get a "Under Construction" page up. Is there any good templates I can download that don't look as though a 3rd grader made them (as mine seem to look like in FP)?

3. I added a 2nd domain to my account through the cpanel. But the way I read it, it almost seems like a subdomain. It also appears as a folder on my main domain "Index of/" list. Did I screw this up?

5. Is there a book/references that I can get to update me on this stuff? I never messed with the add-on scripts (blog, webmail, calenders) before and I'm not sure how to make them appear on my website (WHEN I finally get it up).

I feel like a total idiot. I thought I knew enough to get me started, but I just feel like I jumped off a cliff. I'm a fast learner, but I guess a need help getting pointed in the right direction.

Thanks in advance.

As soon as you upload an index file that will go away. All your files have to go in the public_html directory.

This site: http://www.templatesbox.com/templates.htm
has some nice free templates.

If you added an addon domain it will be under the same cpanel account. It still is accessed via thedomain.com

If you want it to have a separte cPanel account you will need to create that through WHM. You can login via yourdomain.com/whm or IP/whm

5. Is there a book/references that I can get to update me on this stuff? I never messed with the add-on scripts (blog, webmail, calenders) before and I'm not sure how to make them appear on my website (WHEN I finally get it up).

You could try searching the knowledgebase:

or use the cPanel documentation guides:
