Which files can I delete ?

In my search to find out what I can and can't delete, I read something that said that any file or directory that starts with a "." in front of it like .trash that it's just garbage temp files or directories that can be deleted. Any truth to this?

I would not delete any of those files under your public_html directory unless you know exactly what you are doing. If you delete the wrong file(s) it could stop a lot of things from working.
